Fortunately, there were not any Twins fans picking ahead of me, and I was able to pick up my number one: a Kent Hrbek autographed Lumber Cuts card from 2005 Donruss. There were plenty of Cubs cards up for draft, but this Hrbek takes me back to when I was a kid watching baseball game with my die-hard Twins fan of a dad. We were lucky enough to watch them win the World Series in 1987 and 1991, and Hrbek was a BIG part of those wins.
The great thing about this draft was that the majority of these hits were of REALLY good players, some cards containing multiple pieces. Here's a quick look at what I grabbed. Most of these I'm keeping, but the last two are up for trade.
2009 SPX Ken Griffey Jr./Jim Edmonds Dual Jersey
2002 Upper Deck Diamond Connection Helton/Griffey/Sosa/Rodriguez Quad Bat Relic
2004 Upper Deck Vintage Jim Thome Jersey Relic
2001 Fleer Showcase Jim Thome Bat Relic
2002 Topps Gold Label Bill Buckner Jersey
2005 Donruss Timber & Threads Alfonso Soriano
2002 Fleer Authentic Memorabilia Jeff Bagwell Jersey
2003 Fleer EX Sammy Sosa Die Cut Jersey 62/345
2003 Playoff Piece of the Game J.C. Romero Auto Jersey
2010 Topps Alexei Ramirez Jersey
As a bonus, Sam threw in a large number of inserts from his own collection. I picked up bordered Masterpiece parralels of Roger Maris from 2007 and of Roberto Clemente and Ken Griffey Jr. from 2008. From 2011 Lineage, I was able to get a Cloth Duke Snider, Platinum Jackie Robinson, and Diamond Fergie Jenkins. I also grabbed Topps inserts of Honus Wagner & Cy Young
Lastly, the LCS owner that Sam got the cards from threw in a 9-card set of 2012 Topps Prime 9 for each of the break participants. (Spoiler Alert: Week 9 will be Albert Pujols)
As always, any time I enter a break or a draft at the Dimwit's blog, I absolutely love the cards I receive in return. If you like what you see here, just be sure you don't miss out on the next one.
